‘Why Ayakoromo Community Remains Loyal To Uduaghan’s Adminisration’
GOVERNMENT, whether local state or federal, is a social contract. Implicit in this concept is the time-honoured fact that governance is composed of governors and the governed.
The governors here refer to the people holding public office in trust for the people, while the governed are mainly the electorate who have entrusted the people in power with the mandate of stirring the ship of state.
The electorates are under obligation to perform their civic duties, including payment of taxes and loyalty to the government in power while the government has the duty and obligation of ensuring the people’s security, social welfare and economic wellbeing.
Among the manifestations of government’s responsibilities to the people is the provision of heath, education, shelter, food and social infrastructure such as roads and electricity.
The community leaders are eager to attest to the determination of the administration in making the people feel the impact of government in bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.
The Uduaghan administration has since inception has demonstrated sufficient faith in the place of social contract in the realm of statecraft.
This can be evidenced in the three point agenda hinged on a tripod of peace and security, human capital and infrastructural development.
One community that believes so much in the internalization of the concept and culture of social contract and the vigour which the Uduaghan administration has brought into translating the concept to reality is the Ayakoromo Federated Community.
Messrs Ayepretubo Independence and Biayebo Fonbrapade who pilot the affairs of the community as chairman and secretary respectively say the community will remain loyal to the Uduaghan administration in appreciation of the governments good gesture in coming to the aid of the people whenever the need arises.
The community leaders who recalled the assistance of the Uduaghan administration incoming to the aid of the community following the untold hardship meted out to them by the military Joint Task Force that raided the area in 2010.
They maintain that the governor’s visit to personally assess the extent of damage and hardship unleashed on the people by JTFand his subsequent release of funds to cushion the devastating effects on the people cannot be forgotten in a hurry.
The community leaders who pointed out that loyalty is an invaluable precursor to attracting more dividends of democracy maintain that the people will continue to demonstrate their belief in the Uduaghan’s administration.
While lauding the zeal and speed, with which the administration has responded to the needs of the people the community, the leaders identified five core areas that are of vital importance to them.
The areas of needs which inexorably resulted mainly from the attacks on the community by the JTF included the urgent need for the restoration of electricity in the area.
The absence of electricity in the community has according to these community leaders, adversely affected social life, commerce and industry.
The people also believe that the zeal with which the governor responded to their needs during the JTF onslaught can be replicated through the actualization of the construction of the overhead bridge across the river Niger at Ayakoromo as this has the capacity of tremendously enhancing the economic and social activities among the people on both sides of the river
Another source of worry which this community needs government further attention according is the replacement of the battered roofs of the primary school which was destroyed by the JTF.
The community leaders are still optimistic that as a listening and people oriented governor, governor Uduaghan will demonstrate further belief in the social contract by putting machinery in motion to ensure the completion of the state government’s comprehensive health centre to meet the health needs of the teeming population.
Another area of need that the community wants government intervention is the deflooding of the low lying terrain of Ayakoromo which they believe will further bring immense development to the area.
