Asaba Traditional Wrestling Holds Tomorrow

THE popular Asaba traditional wrestling festival is to hold on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Asaba. As usual, it will attract the cream of Asaba youths who will be participating in the historic event of multi-dimensional significance. Locally called Mgba Aja Ahaba, the event will hold at the popular Ogbeke Square, in the heart of the capital city of Delta state. According to former sports producer and coordinator of the event, Mr Peter Okwuniazor, the event will feature traditional free style wrestling in three major categories- senior, intermediate and junior.
Mr Okwuniazor said that the event, now in its 20th edition this year, was introduced to revive the highly valued activity of traditional wrestling in Asaba setting, provide entertainment for the people while resuscitating their culture as well as enhance cohesion and unity among the people of Asaba, especially the youths. The coordinator added that as part of the ways to encourage participation in the festival among the youths, special prizes would be given to winners in the different categories.
