AS the nation prepares for the general elections, the first Vice Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and the obi of Owa kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Efiezomor 11 has admonished politicians to play the game by the rule and avoid acts inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
Dr. Efeizomor made the call in his New Year message to Nigerians.
The Owa monarch particularly urged the political class to be guided by the overall interest of the nation in their utterance and political engagements, saying that they should work for the continued unity, peace and progress of the nation.
The foremost traditional ruler also enjoined politicians to jettison abusive, indecent and inflammatory language and unguarded comments that would not promote healthy political contest and advance democratic rule in Nigeria.
He called on the leadership of the various political parties to prevail on their candidates and supporters on the need to be civil, exhibit maturity and exercise the highest degree of decorum in the build up to the elections.
Obi Efeizomor challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible, acceptable and fair elections, the outcome of which will be accepted by all Nigerians.
He also charged Nigerians to support the President, Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in the fight against insurgency, just as he called on Boko Haram members to turn a new leaf and lay down their arms in the spirit of the New Year.
The highly revered Owa kingdom expressed optimism that Nigeria would survive 2015 as one indivisible nation and urged the political class to allow national interest to subsume personal ambition in the interest of posterity.
