Roads: FG Yet To Reimburse Delta N40Bn –Obiago

BY ANDREW IKEHI
DELTA State Government has said that the Federal Government is yet to reimburse it over N40 billion, being money expended by the Uduaghan administration for the construction of Federal Roads in the state.
The Economic Adviser to the state Governor, Ogbueshi Afam Obiago who disclosed this during an exclusive chat with The POINTER in Asaba, said the state government expended the money in the construction of some of the federal roads because of the state government’s drive towards massive infrastructural development in the state.
While saying that although the roads were the exclusive responsibility of the Federal Government, the Economic Adviser hinted that the state government decided to shoulder the responsibility considering the multiplier economic effects the roads have on Deltans in particular and the general public.
He expressed optimism that given the robust relationship between the state and the federal governments, particularly, and in relation to the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda, the money would be paid, just as he noted that other roads have been marked for construction and rehabilitation.
His words, “The infrastructural development profile of Dr. Uduaghan in the state is indeed something that will definitely outlive this administration. At present, a lot of roads have so far been constructed and tarred.
“As I speak with you, the Asaba-Ughelli is near completion, just as we have completed the Ugbenikoko road, Osubi-Eku raod among others. These roads are economic roads and that is why we were particular about them because they have multiplier economic effects to the state.
“As we are doing these roads, so we are also engaged in the construction of bridges. Without bothering you with a lot of figures, we have even tarred some federal roads and as we speak, we have up to N40 billion Delta State money that the Federal Government should reimburse, being money expended on the tarring of federal roads in the state”, Obiago said.
