SEEFOR Disburses N89m to 110 Fadama User Groups In Delta

THE World Bank-sponsored State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR) project has so far disbursed N89 million to 110 Fadama Users Group (FUGs) in Delta State.
The Coordinator of Fadama III Project in the state, Mr. Anthony Abanum, disclosed this in an interview in Asaba.
Abanum said that the Fadama-SEEFOR support programme had closed the gap created by the parent Fadama project, which covered only 20 of the 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
He said that the remaining five LGAs that benefitted from the support programme were Bomadi, Udu, Warri South, Warri South-West and Burutu.
He said that 71 FUGs, comprising 800 people from eight communities in Bomadi, Udu, Warri South and Warri South-West LGAs, got a total of N75.2 million in 2014.
The coordinator gave the breakdown of the disbursements as follows: Bomadi, N16.2 million; Udu, N32 million; Warri South, N20 million; and Warri South-West, N7 million.
He added: “This year, Burutu got N14 million and this brings the total number of beneficiaries to 1,000, drawn from 12 communities in the council areas.
“This has enabled the beneficiaries to establish various agricultural and other rural enterprises aimed at increasing their incomes and creating jobs”.
He said that unlike the parent Fadama project which operated in the upland areas of the state, the Fadama-SEEFOR support project in the riverine communities had peculiar challenges.
“The parent Fadama project operated in the upland areas of the state and the operations were easier in the 20 local government areas.
“In the riverine communities, cost of executing any project or running an enterprise doubles that of a similar one in the upland. But we have, however, understood the workings better.
The state coordinator commended the World Bank and the state government for supporting the programme.
Abanum appealed to the local governments in the state to be more committed to the programme by promptly paying the N2 million counterpart fund required from each of them. (NAN)
