Okowa Promises To Prioritise Health Sector

Plans Health Insurance Scheme For Deltans
THE Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, said he would give priority to the health sector if elected.
He also promised to institute a health insurance scheme for Deltans.
Okowa made the promise in Asaba during an interactive session with the executive members of the Delta Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said that he would continue with the free maternal and under-five care programme of the current administration in the state.
“One new thing I will do is that I will step up health insurance scheme in the state. Health is key to the development of other sectors of the economy”, he said.
The candidate said that his administration would expand the agriculture programme of the current administration by establishing two agro-based industrial estates in the state.
He said that there would be employment opportunities for youths in the state with the industrial estates in place and consolidation on the achievements of the current administration.
“I will continue with the Warri Industrial Park programme and establish two more agro-based industrial estates to create employment in the state”, he said.
Okowa said that the current fall in oil price in the international market was a call on government at all levels to diversify their economies.
“This is what ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ economic blue print is all about and if elected governor, I will consolidate on the achievements of this and other programmes of the current administration’’. he added.
Okowa said that because of dwindling oil resources, his administration would establish a scale of preference for ongoing projects in the state to meet the challenges.
“This does not mean abandoning projects, but there will be need to take up projects that will move up the economic profile of the state.
We will of course improve on the internally generated revenue.
“If elected, my administration will interface with the out-going one to articulate properly on this, he added.
Okowa called on the electorate to vote for PDP in the January14 and 28 elections, saying that the party had performed well in the country.
