Delta Organises Trials To select Competent Athletes For National Championship

THE Delta State Athletics Association Thursday organized trials at Sapele Township stadium for the State to select athletes that would represent the Association in the National Athletic Championship coming up on 6- 7th February 2015 at Lagos.
The trials which was sponsored by the former Delta State Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Chief Solomon Ogba as a way of ensuring that Team Delta perform creditably at the national sports meet.
Chief Ogba who is the current president of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) emphasized on commitment of both athletes and officials especially the coaches, who he said have a lot to do on the athletes for good results to be achieved.
The Secretary to the Association, Emuobo Igalase commended Chief Ogba for being committed to the development of sports in the State even as he is now on national assignment. She noted that preparing athletes for the Athletic Championship gave her some concern as the matter appears to be far beyond realities before Chief Ogba saw the need and took it up.
The trials covered both track and field’s events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500 as well as javelin, discuss, long jump high jump and triple jump.
Dignitaries present are: AFN President, Chief Solomon Ogba, Delta State Sports Commission Director of Publicity and Communication, Mr. Sunday Edoge and the Director of Sports Development, Mr. Christopher Anazia.
