IN Line with the principle of delegation of authority and devolution of powers, Delta State Local Government Service Commission
has established three zonal offices of the Commission in the three senatorial districts in the state.
According to a circular announcing the establishment of the Zonal offices of the Commission which was signed by the Commission’s
immediate past Secretary, Dr. Philip Agbeyeke for Chairman of the Commission, Comrade Olumami Oyibo, the zonal office of the Commission in Delta North is the Ika South local government council secretariat in Agbor.
The circular added that Ughelli North and Warri South local government council secretariats are the zonal offices of the Commission
in Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts respectively.
The circular, titled ‘Establishment of Local
Government Service Commission Zonal Offices’ said “in consideration of the huge staff in the unified local government service and in line with the principle of delegation of authority and devolution of powers, and for purposes of close supervision and monitoring
of human and material resources of local government councils in the state, the Commission has approved the establishment of the three zonal offices”.
Each of the zonal offices, according to the circular, would be headed by a serving Head of Personnel Management (HPM) who would handle the administrative matters affecting the councils within his jurisdiction, adding that a serving Treasurer to Local Government
Council (TLG) would, in the same vein, handle all financial issues affecting the councils within the zones.
“It is the view of the Commission that the establishment of the three zonal offices would help to strengthen cohesion, promote close supervision, monitoring, prompt rendition
of monthly returns as well as enhance efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery
at the local government councils”, the circular stated.
While saying that logistics for smooth take off of the zonal offices would be given prompt and appropriate attention to ensure that the objective for the establishment of the zonal offices were realized, the circular implored the Chairmen and HPMs in the three local government councils where the zonal offices of the Commission are located to provide office accommodation and support
staff for the immediate take off of the three zonal offices.
