Warri Wolves Humble Kano Pillars

A brace from Sikiru Adewale and a fine finish from Ikechukwu Ibenegbu gave Warri Wolves a 3-1 win over Glo Premier League champions Kano Pillars at the on-going Super Four tournament in Abuja.
The Warri side got the opener through Sikiru Adewale in the 13th minute after being teed up by teammate Emmanuel Omodiagbe.
Ikechukwu Ibenegbu nearly made it two after a neat interchange of passes but his shot was blocked by Promise James as Wolves began to assert themselves in the game.
Warri Wolves stayed in the hunt and were nearly rewarded when Stanley Dimgba squared the ball to an unmarked Ibenegbu who couldn’t get to the ball on time, his follow-up shot hitting the side netting.
Sikiru Adewale got his second of the game in the 35th minute after Warri Wolves cut through the Pillars defence with Stanley Dimgba supplying the assist this time round.
Kano Pillars pulled one back in the 41st minute as Christian Obiozor scored his third goal of the tournament, benefiting from a defensive mistake by Joseph Osadiaye.
The goal seemed to spur on the ‘Sai Masugida’ as they piled pressure on the Warri Wolves defence as the first half wore out.
Obiozor had a chance to level the scores but the former Enugu Rangers attacker could only hit the side netting from Adamu Hassan’s cross.
Warri Wolves pinned back the champions with a third goal through Ikechukwu Ibenegbu who stabbed the ball past a helpless Afelokhai after a beautiful move down the right left channel by Dimgba in the 54th minute.
Dimgba was proving a handful for Reuben Ogbonnaya and Promise James in the heart of the Pillars defence as Warri Wolves looked to have the reigning Glo Premier League champions on ropes.
Afelokhai did well to save Pillars twice in a couple of minutes. First he thwarted Michael Egbeta and then saved Ibenegbu’s effort with his feet as Wolves ran Pillars ragged in an one side second half.
Substitute Abu Azeez had a glorious chance to add to Wolves’ tally but he send his shot wide with the goal at his mercy as Warri Wolves nicked their first win of the Glo Premier League Invitational tournament
