Delta Takes Delivery Of 46 Tractors For Farmers

THE State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has taken delivery of 46 tractors with their full compliments of implements, being the first phase of the 92 approved by the State Executive Council.
This was disclosed yesterday at Asaba by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, when he embarked on a test drive of one of the tractors round the Commissioners’ quarters.
Prof. Muoboghare said that the Ministry placed orders for 92 tractors, assuring that before the end of the present administration, the other 46 would arrive the State.
He stated that the bulk of the tractors would be given to genuine farmers at subsidised rates through cooperative societies across the State.
The commissioner advised farmers to take advantage of the gesture and go into full scale mechanised farming activities so as to be able to produce enough food for the masses as a way to justify the State Government support.
He said that the procurement of the tractors was a parting gift from the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, whose passion for agriculture is legendary, stressing that the in-coming administration would take a cue from here and take agriculture to a greater height.
He said that it is the belief of the Governor that agriculture is key to the policy of “Delta Beyond Oil”.
The commissioner commended the General Manager and staff of the State Tractor Hire Agency for their commitment to duty by ensuring that the knocked down parts were assembled in such a short time and, therefore, appealed to them to ensure that the tractors were properly maintained.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the State Tractor Hire Agency, Engineer Peter Onichabor thanked the commissioner for his revolutionary approach to the affairs of the ministry since he assumed duty.
Engineer Onichabor stated that the commissioner’s commitment had increased the tempo of activities in the Agency as their engineers and technicians were fully involved in the assembling of the tractors, assuring that the Agency would take adequate care of the procured items.
