IT is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Traders and Market Associations in Sapele Local Government Area, that the Delta State Government has banned all forms of street trading along Market Road, Sapele.
Accordingly, traders who have been allocated market stalls by the Delta State Government are advised to move into the market and take possession of their stalls for the purposes of trading and other lawful transactions.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Delta State Government in October 2006, embarked on the reconstruction of the Sapele market which was ravaged by fire.
The market project which was primarily the responsibility of the Local Government Council to handle, had to be undertaken by the State Government under the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement because the project was beyond the financial capacity of the council.
Under the BOT arrangement, the ownership of the market would revert to the Local Government Council, after the State Government has recouped its investment on the project which fund was sourced from the Bond Market.
Consequently, the State Government, having completed the project, allocated stalls to beneficiaries to enable it recover the money spent on the building of the market.
All allottees of stalls in the Sapele Ultra Modern Market are by this announcement advised to pay the necessary fees and charges into the state government treasury through the Office of the Accountant General.
Allottees are advised to deal with only agents of the State Government in matters of collection/payment of fees/levies for the stalls.
Market associations, traders and the general public should be guided accordingly, please.
