Uduaghan Inaugurates Oyovbaire As DELSU Governing Council Chairman

DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has inaugurated former Minister of Information, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire as the Chairman, Governing Council of the Delta State University, Abraka with a call on him to develop the University to meet international standards.
According to the Governor, the vision of his administration was “to develop a world class institution that can compete with other such institutions globally”, stating that DELSU should “focus greater attention on the institutional mandates of teaching, research, training and community service”.
The inauguration ceremony which took place yesterday at Government House, Asaba in the presence of other members of the Governing Council and management of the University, Governor Uduaghan said, was necessary as a result of the resignation of Mr. Tony Elumelu from such position.
He described Prof. Oyovbaire as a “well known Deltan, versatile Minister of Information, somebody who is very detailed, vast and experienced in University administration and when it comes to national issues, he is well connected”.
Dr. Uduaghan, who disclosed that DELSU is one of the outstanding state universities in the country, appealed to “all stakeholders, especially staff, students and community to cooperate with the Governing Council to ensure its continuing success”.
While congratulating Prof. Oyovbaire on his appointment, Governor Uduaghan expressed confidence in his ability to turn around the fortunes of the University for the better.
Prof. Oyovbaire at the occasion thanked Governor Uduaghan for the appointment and assured him of his commitment to the development of the university.
“DELSU was started in my time, the place is familiar, I know the challenges and I pledge that I will do the best I can to help the university”, he said.
