Workers In Upbeat Mood To Celebrate May Day In Delta

IN its usual boisterous manner that takes the form of celebrations, Nigeria Workers will today converge on various centres across the 36 states of the federation and FCT in commemoration of the May Day celebration otherwise known as Workers Day.
In Delta State, workers are in upbeat and the atmosphere very convivial. This is against the backdrop of the fact that this year’s Workers Day will be the last for the outgoing administration of Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, which has carved a niche for itself as one of few states in the country that never owed workers salary for eight years. This year’s celebration will equally usher in a new executive of the NLC, who are barely two weeks old on the saddle, following their election on April 23, 2015.
According to the programme of activities lined up for the celebration which was signed by Comrades Myke Arinze and David Ofoeyeno, state Chairmen, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and NLC, respectively, today’s event will hold at St Patrick College, West End, Asaba, Delta State with the state Governor ,Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan as the special Guest of Honour
The 2015 May Day celebration with the theme: The Working Class, Democratic Consolidation and Economic Revival, Charting The way to National Rebirth” will also have Special Jumat prayers at FC(T) Mosque, Asaba today while the thanksgiving service will take place at Divine way Baptist Church, Okpanam road, on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 10.am.
