Ogwashi-Uku Dam Project: Community Cautions Against Hasty Commissioning

BY INNOCENT OSAKWE
following the alleged move by the contractor handling the Ogwashi-Uku water dam project to get it commissioned on Tuesday, the people of Ogwashi-Uku community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State has said that they will do all within the ambit of the law to ensure that the uncompleted project was not commissioned.
This was part of the resolution reached during the Ogwashi-Uku Development Union [ODU] expanded meeting which held over the weekend.
The statement jointly signed by the President-General of ODU, Sir Emmanuel Okafor and the Secretary-General, Mr. John Nwaekete noted that since the water dam project is far from being completed, the
issue of commissioning should be jettisoned in order to pave way for the job to be done according to specifications.
The ODU called on the Minister for Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe to include the dam project in the handover note to be made available to the incoming government of General Muhammdu Buhari as one of the uncompleted project, just as they called on the contractor handling the project to go back to site and ensure its completion.
While calling on the contractor to settle the compensation fee owed the affected communities, the town’s union urged the firm to complete the project, which they said will enable Ogwashi-Uku and its environs to benefit from the dam in the supply of water, electricity and irrigations as proposed in the contract.
