Automotive Council Signs N2.4 Billion Equipment Testing Contracts with Three Firms

AThe National Automotive Council (NAC) has signed contractual pacts with three firms for the supply and installation of automotive testing laboratory equipment and tools worth 11.6m Euros (about N2.44 billion).
The Director General of NAC, Aminu Jalal, who spoke at the signing ceremony in Abuja, explained that the equipment and tools would be used in the gas emission testing laboratory in Lagos, component testing laboratory in Enugu as well as vehicle evaluation laboratory located in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The NAC DG said the laboratories were critical in the implementation of National Automotive Industrial Plan [NAIDP], as they were designated as centers of excellence in automotive engineering for learning and research.
He added that the laboratories would also open the way for vehicle components and parts manufacturing in Nigeria, adding that they would ensure that vehicles conform to safety and environmental regulations.
In addition, he stressed the need for legislation on safety and emission of vehicles in order to protect the occupants of vehicles in the country.
