Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has stated that the peace enjoyed in the state was as a result of prayers and the power of God.
Speaking at a special thanksgiving service of the Government House Family to celebrate God’s Goodness on his administration for the past eight years at the Government House Chapel yesterday in Asaba, Governor Uduaghan said that the prevailing peace and security in the state could be attributed to God’s goodness and mercies and the prayers offered on behalf of the state by clergymen and prayer warriors.
While commending the Government House family for prayerfully supporting his administration in the last eight years, the governor explained that the success of his administration lies on the strength of prayers offered by people, especially members of the “Alter of New Beginning”, stressing that “the in-coming administration will continue on this path of continuous prayers for peace in the state”.
Speaking further, the governor noted that he was leaving a legacy of peace for the state and know that the in-coming administration would try to sustain this peace with prayers stressing that direct investment have increased in the state as a result of the peace in the state.
“I pray that the peace, God has granted the state will continue to be sustained, Foreign Direct Investment can only come into the state when there is peace and security. I thank God today that the era of war, kidnapping and robbery is over in the state as it had massive effects on investments in the state”, Dr. Uduaghan added, stressing that “for the peace to continue, we must continue to pray and supplicate on behalf of the state”.
In an exhortation, the chaplain of the chapel, Rev. Ben Golley said that it was good to praise and express gratitude to God for his goodness and kindness towards us, explaining that Governor Uduaghan, his family and members of his administration have every reason to thank God for his goodness to them in the last eight years.
He said that the governor’s developmental strides and achievements could be attributed to God’s power and goodness in his life.
Meanwhile, a multi-million dollar Delta State micro, small and medium entreprenurship centre has been commissioned by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Dr. Uduaghan commissioned the center at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State in the presence of officials of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO); officials of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), traditional rulers, top politicians, among others.
Delta State government provided $820 million as counterpart fund while UNIDO provided technical expertise for the project.
The Governor described the project as one of the projects designed to achieve the Delta Beyond Oil initiative of his administration.
“Our micro credit scheme which we started in 2007 has started to yield fruits”, he said, adding, “our intention with Delta Beyond Oil is to have a lot of industries that will keep the people positively engaged”.
He reiterated, “we believe that with our micro credit programme, we can build industries”.
Dr. Uduaghan used the occasion to commend the youths of Issele-Uku for not distrupting the project, saying projects executed by his administration were well intentioned in the interest of the people.
He said, “I pray that other youths in the state emulate the youths of this community for government projects to go on smoothly, we know that most times, the youths benefit more from the projects.”
While commending UNIDO for a progressive partnership, Dr Uduaghan noted that UNIDO will concentrate on leather works and shoe making while FIIRO will handle food products.
Earlier, the representative of UNIDO at the occasion, Mr. Jessy Ojobo said Dr. Uduaghan keeps to his promise and the UNIDO was happy to partner the Delta State government in developing the center.
The Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Executive Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu in an address, stated that the center would be training more than 10,000 persons annually who will be assisted to set up their businesses and also train other Deltans.
“This is a wealth creating center,”Dr Ashiedu said and lauded Governor Uduaghan’s commitment to empower Deltans through the Delta Beyond Oil initiative.
The Regent of Issele-Uku, Prince Dominic Egbune in his address said, “this training and entrepreneurship centre is an indelible edifice Dr. Uduaghan has established that can never be forgotten, we will remain very grateful for this wonderful gesture that will also boost the economy.
