55 Schools To Participate In The Maiden BASA LT Inter-Primary School Football Competition

the maiden edition of BASALT Inter-Primary School
Football Competition for Primary Schools in Aniocha
South Local Government Area, Delta State, christened
“BASALT CUP 2015.”
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Mike
Okwuechime, made the disclosure while speaking with
sports journalists in Warri, saying that the opening
ceremony and Kick-Off Sunday 7, June 2015, by 1:00pm at
Ezemu Girls Grammar School, Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South
Local Government Area.
Mr. Okwechime said that the sponsor of the competition,
Mr. Stanley Afam Okafor and the M.D/C.E.O of BASALT
OIL AND GAS LIMITED., Lagos based company, who hails
from Dibiaokwu community in Ugbaah Quarters of Ubulu-
Uku, will be leading the delegation to the ceremony which
will signal the discovering of youthful talents that will be
groomed to become future stars.
Mr. Afam will be leading a team made up of BASALT
staff against Ubulu-Uku All Stars that will have the likes of
Chairman of Delta State Football Association and ex-Super
Eagles playmaker, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha and another exinternational,
Monday Odiaka on parade in the opening
game to signal the commencement of a competition which
aim to contribute to development of the game.
According to Mr. Okwechime, “BASALT inter primary
school is the first of its kind in the history of Aniocha
South Local Government Area and we are grateful to the
sponsor. We are putting finishing touches to ensure that
the ceremony is hitch free.”
“The winner of this competition will go home with a nonreturnable
gold medal with cash prize of three hundred
thousand naira, second prize is non-returnable silver
medal with cash prize of two hundred thousand naira,
third position with a non-returnable bronze medal and a
cash prize of one hundred thousand naira, while the third
runners up will go home with a consolation prize of fifty
thousand naira only.”
He further said, “What makes the BASALT CUP 2015
unique is the fact that each of the participating fifty five
schools will be given a football, a set of jersey, transportation
subsidy and additional branded jersey with the name of
each player for the four teams that will qualify for the semi
final. Each school will parade 22 players and each player
will be given exercise book branded in the company’s
name.”
Mr. Okwechime said that the competition has been
grouped into six zones for convenience purpose, with
Ubulu-Uku having two playing pitches, Ogwashi-Uku two
playing pitches, while Nsukwa and Isheagu will be hosting
one playing pitch each. Other awards will be most valuable
player award, best goal keeper award, best coach award,
best behaved team award and other consolation prizes.
