Assembly Directs Clerk To Convey Election Result To Gov Okowa

THE Delta State House of Assembly has directed the Clerk of the House to communicate to the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the elections of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Sixth Assembly.
The development followed a motion to that effect by the member representing Isoko North, Hon. Tim Owhefere during the first session of the Sixth Assembly where Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya and Hon. Friday Osanebi emerged as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya, a third timer in the House, represents Sapele Constituency, while the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Friday Osanebi, Ndokwa East, is in his second tenure in the state legislature.
Hon. Tim Owhefere, Isoko North in the motion moved that ‘’the Clerk of the House do inform Governor, Okowa that the Delta State Assembly has elected Hon. Monday Igbuya and Friday Osanebi as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively’’.
The lawmaker in the second leg of the motion stated that the clerk should also inform the governor that with the elections of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the House is therefore fully constituted to receive any message he may wish to transmit. The motion was unanimously adopted.
Meanwhile, some of the lawmakers in their reactions to the elections of Igbuya and Osanebi as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, commended their emergence and promised to work with them towards ensuring a cohesive House.
Those who spoke include, Hon Alphonsus Ojo, Ukwuani, Efe Ofobruku, Uvwie, Evans Iwhurie, Ethiope East, Eric Oharisi, Ughelli North 11, Tim Owhefere, Isoko North and Johnson Erijo, Isoko South 11 Constituency.
They stressed the importance of unity of purpose in the state legislature, saying that it is key to moving the state forward.
