Attitude, Skill, Knowledge, Steps To Leadership Says Odeh

Developing positive attitudes, building appropriate skills and acquiring relevant knowledge have been identified as the three strategic steps to the development of leadership qualities among youth.
A Management Consultant, Joseph Odeh identified these strategies while delivering a lecture during the Leadership Summit of the Young Elites with Initiative Entrepreneurship Minds of Nigeria (YEIEMN) held at the Labour House, Asaba, Delta State Capital. Odeh observed that youth who are hopeful of leadership positions must make good choices in their daily lives, adding that life is about choices and personal decisions.
He reasoned that a positive attitude entails starting simple, keeping good companies, learning continuously and always believing in the possibility of success. The MBA Coach, who spoke on the theme of the event, “Equip Us For Tomorrow: Building Young Leaders For Developmental Change”, underscored the importance of early discovery of one’s dream, saying that leadership entails identifying one’s strength and weakness and exploring all available opportunities while dealing with possible threats as much as possible.
Odeh opined that the greatest deceit in life is being ignorant of one’s ability. He enjoined all youths to be flexible and embrace integrity in all their dealings. He said: “you may have the physical qualities of a leader but, you must learn some leadership skills that will enable you to succeed. Whether you believe that leaders are born or made, you must be goal oriented and your goals should be tailored along the SMART principles”.
The guest lecturer stressed that it is imperative for youth to be abreast of basic facts and to always put all acquired knowledge into use, saying that knowledge will be worthless if it is not practiced. He enjoined all youth to be proactive in all their dealings, saying “gather your data into facts, let the facts become information, organize the information into knowledge which should dwell in you and, apply the knowledge as your wisdom with clarity of perception so that you will become enlightened”.
Earlier in his opening speech, the President of the organisation, Iniator Emmanuel Ubitule hinted that YEIEMN is an NGO for young Nigerians, adding that the summit was not organized to bring just youths together but it was organized to bring leaders together to fine-tune the way forward to bringing a good and better environment for the present generation and the generations to come”.
While pledging the readiness of YEIEMN to partner with the Delta State Government on youth development,Ubitule urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa “to see to it that a young, vibrant and enthusiastic youth is appointed as a Commissioner for Youth Development”.
