THE wife of Delta State Governor, Dame Edith Okowa has called on well-spirited individuals, non-governmental organisations and stakeholders in the education sector to partner government in the provision of a sound teaching and learning environment.
Dame Okowa, made the call when she commissioned 250 double- seater chairs and desks donated by Ika Elite Development League to two secondary schools-Owa-Oyibu Secondary School in Ika North East and Ime-Obi Secondary School in Ika South Local Government Areas, respectively.
She said everyone should borrow a leaf from the group to move the state forward, saying that they did not just sectionalise the donation rather, they picked schools from two local governments which shows that this administration is Delta beyond tribe.
“The group is working for humanity, life is not about how many houses you build or your bank account, let us use our money to help humanity, bringing 250 chairs is a good development to humanity. The change we are talking about today is about you and I”, she stressed.
She challenged everyone to try to impact lives in his or her community, adding that whether you are a civil servant, a businessman or a farmer, giving is a spirit, our spirit must change, we must begin to give, whatever we have, we must give out, this is the beginning of new things in this area and Delta State”.
The president of the group, Mr. Ronald Egede said the two schools were chosen after a pains taking research was carried out to determine the needs of the schools, the strategic implication and the multiplier effect of donating the chairs to the schools.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. J.E. Akinmoyewa commended the invaluable assistance of the group to the ministry through their generous donation and expressed the belief that students from the benefiting schools will remain forever grateful.
Commending the kind gesture, the principal of both schools, Mrs. Felicia Ozere and Mrs. Patience Elike said that the donation will go a long way to improving the academic standard of the students as well as boost the status of both schools.
The senior prefect of Ime-Obi Secondary School, Master David Ndidi Daniel and that of Owa Secondary School, Master Udoka Harrison commended the donation by the Elite Group, saying that before now, they used to sit on the windows and floors but God has helped them through the group.
