Asagba’s 90th Birthday Tourney West End FC Beat Cable Point In Opening Encounter

IN what qualifies by all manners of description as clash of the giants, West-End Football Club of Asaba, Saturday humbled Cable Point F C also of Asaba by two goals at the opening ceremony of Asagba of Asaba 90th birthday football tournament.
The match which took place at the Federal College Education (Technical), Asaba, was kicked –off by Former Director – General, Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Prof. Epiphany Azinge who also was the Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 90th Birthday Celebration.
But the grass became greener for West- End F C when in less than two minutes of the game, Chukwuyem Stephen rammed d in the first goal of the match that sent the entire arena rattling with sounds of gongs, bells and other objects.
Determined to equalize, the Cable boys made efforts to invade their opponent’s vital area but the defensive walls of the West-enders looked impenetrable.
Both teams appeared to be in control of the game, each trying to undo the other in their struggle to add another goal or equalize.
But the tempo on the side of the Cable boys gave up when about few minutes to the end of the encounter, wonder boy, Chukwuyem Stephen, wired in another goal that sent the net waving and awarding them the victory.
Although the Cable boys lost the match, the team showed flashes of brilliance.
The tournament will be on-going every Saturday and Sunday at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, and Asaba Girls Grammar School football pitches by 4pm. till July 28, 2015.
