Sabotage Our Programmes, Face Prosecution —Okowa

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has said security operatives will go after anyone who is not sincere in handling government projects and the law will take its course.
Governor Okowa gave the warning yesterday during a consultative forum with commodity and farmers cooperative societies on modalities for them to benefit from state government’s empowerment programmes.
He specifically warned that it will amount to acts of criminality for farmers to receive Tractors, Fertilizers and other tools from government at highly subsidized rates and sale same to others without using them for the purpose they were meant for.
According to him, “we need to be very sincere in our approach to the issue of empowerment, there is nothing that is as bad as having a good programme which did not work out because people are not sincere.”
He added, “we want true farmers, not political farmers, we want to give support to those who really need them, we do not want a situation where an association gets a Tractor and sell it, we will use security operatives to go out for those who will do such, people who will sabotage government programmes and they will be prosecuted.”
Governor Okowa stated that the Tractors and fertilizers will be given to farmers at a subsidized rate of 40 per cent and warned that they should be put into use by the buyers.
He assured farmers of adequate support from his administration to enable them produce, process and have their products in the market asserting, “the programmes are starting now, we don’t want anticipatory programmes, and everything must be properly documented.”
Commissioner designate and chairman, ad-hoc committee on job creation, Dr Kingsley Emu stated that the Governor has rolled out six empowerment programmes to empower different categories of Deltans.
Prof Eric Eboh who is in charge of job placement in the job creation committee informed the farmers who came from different parts of the state under different organizations that the state government was prepared to assist the farmers to increase their outputs and ensure prosperity for those in the value chain.
Meanwhile, Senator Okowa has charged contractors handling various projects at the Asaba International Airport to speed up their pace of work as he desires early completion of the multi -billion naira project.
Senator Okowa, who paid an unscheduled visit to the airport yesterday warned that he was committed to seeing early completion of the Airport project in accordance with the bill of quantity given to the different contractors handling the project.
The Chairman of ULO Construction Company, Ogbueshi Uche Okpunor, representatives of Levant Construction and CCC Construction Companies who were handling different jobs at the airport were urged to ensure that they live up to their billings.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Dona Umukoro observed that the contractors still have a lot of works to do in accordance with the bill of quantity which the Governor stated, “you must obey the Permanent Secretary, he is your employer in this case, I trust his judgment and if he deceives me, I will sack him, we want the best for our people.”
The Governor called on the contractors to meet with the officials of Ministry of Works to streamline their activities to ensure early completion of the job, insisting he should be properly briefed to enable him know the true situation of the airport.
“This is a specialized area, I want you (contractors) to meet with the Ministry of Works, I want to be properly briefed on progress of work,” the Governor said, emphasising, “I believe we are on course, I am here to see the basics.”
Governor Okowa inspected different sections of the airport including the tank farm, the arrival and departure lounge, the tarmac, the security and fire fighting facilities.

    Good performance, please don’t forget that there are qualified trained technicians who are jobless and they need empowerments and support from Okowa’s government. Please make sure the job empowerments goes round and touch the life of every born youths of Delta state, including me.
