Delta Earmarks N250m For First- Class Graduates

DELTA State Government says it has set aside about N250 million for disbursement to first-class graduates who are indigenes of the state.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Asaba.
Eghagha said that 46 persons were expected to benefit from the fund, adding that the beneficiaries had already been screened. He said each beneficiary would get N5 million to be use for further studies in any field and country of his or her choice.

He said that the state government instituted fund as part of its human capital development programme, adding that it expected the trained manpower to contribute to the development of the state.
The commissioner said that the government would continue to encourage the award of scholarship, “knowing that the quality of labour in a society determines productivity’’.
He called on individuals and corporate organisations in the state to support education, noting the provision of qualitative and affordable education should not be left for government alone.
“Transforming the state is a responsibility for all and I call on all stakeholders to contribute to the development of the state and realisation of the human capital development objective of the government.’’
