Govt Threatens To Close Down Over 1,000 Schools

Deltaeltaeltaelta State Government has threatened
to close down over 1,000 Nursery,
Pre-Nursery schools and crèches in the state, following the discovery of non-compliance in their registration and failure to renew their registration licences.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs,
Community and Social Development, Rev. (Mrs.) Omatsola Williams, who gave the warning during an inspection tour of some private schools in the state, specifically said that the state government would sanction those who fail to perfect their registration requirements within the next three days,
On arrival at her first point of call, which is Master Care International School, the Head Teacher, Mrs. Toju Etchie, who received her revealed that the school was registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs in 2014, but could not produce the renewal certificate
on request.
She ordered the Head Teacher to report to the Ministry the following day, while a visit to Marble Hill School, Okpanam, revealed that, the Pre-Nursery and Nursery sections are operating illegally ‘because they are yet to be registered with the ministry.’
The Head Teacher, Mrs. Ejowe Isidi, claimed ignorance of the necessity of the registration of the Pre-Nursery and Nursery, while the Commissioner ordered her to report to the the ministry.
Rev. Williams also visited Graceville International
School, Asaba, where the story was not different. The Head Teacher, Mrs. Achonwa Kudia, claimed ignorance of the importance of the registration, while the commissioner
also issue an order on the need for the upgrade of the Nursery and Pre-Nursery section playground which can endanger the lives of the pupils.
According to her, most of the schools visited lack playgrounds, equipment to play and the environment is not conducive, adding that most of the children are jam-packed into small classrooms without good ventilation.
Some of the other schools visited that were yet to register with the Ministry include, Sky Set Group of Schools, Okpanam, Royal Champions
Comprehensive School, Okpanam Road, Noble Academy, Cornerstone International Schools, Noble Academy, Divine Success School, Tema Praise School and RoseBud School.
