Speaking at the occasion which can aptly be described as the mother of all
receptions, Chief James Ibori, sued for continued peace and unity in the state
and Nigeria at large, saying that peace and unity were crucial in the development
of the state and the country in general.
He charged political leaders to be selfless and the interest and wellbeing g
of the people their watch-word.
His words, “You should be a listening leader and have the courage to speak
for your people” adding that leadership is all about paying a price for the
betterment of the people and the society in general.
He expressed his profound gratitude to Comrade Macaulay for honouring
him, describing the immediate past SSG as a selfless leader, a team player, a
goal getter and above all a trusted and reliable ally in achieving results.
Chief Ibori also commended the people of Isoko nation for their unflinching
support and solidarity during his tenure as Governor of the Delta State and
Comrade Macaulay and urged them to keep the flag flying.
The former Governor who said that he is now a “Statesman”, applauded
Governor Okowa for good governance that has not only kept the state afloat
despite paucity of funds, but also his monumental achievements as evident in
the three senatorial districts of the state in line with the SMART Agenda.
The Odidigborigbo described Governor Okowas as a man with the fear of
God and a peace lover, saying that his faith in God has been the force driving
While also praising Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his doggedness during
his days as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Chief Ibori
said, “I will be very happy if this democracy is deepened and devoid of bitterness,
rancour and acrimony”.
In their remarks, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
who also harped on the need for peace and unity in the country commended
Comrade Macaulay for honouring Chief Ibori and for being a dependable
companion in the administration of Delta State.
They paid glowing tribute Chief James Ibori for a laying a solid foundation
which they built and still building upon.
They gave God the glory for the return of Chief Ibori to his father land, affirming
that their achievements today are tied to the sterling leadership style
of Chief Ibori and the solid foundation he laid. They asserted that Chief Ibori
built a formidable family that is still intact and working assiduously for the
betterment of Delta State and Nigeria in general. “We should to pray for leaders. We should also continue to preach peace and
unity in the country at all times. We should also realize that the more we remain
peaceful and united, the more we attract development to our communities and
the nation at large”, they affirmed.
Also speaking, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who also poured encomiums on
Comrade Macaulay, describing him as a dogged fighter and labour leader per excellence,
recounted how he worked with the Okiroro of Isoko Land to put smiles
on the faces of Nigerian workers during their days as labour leaders.
He also averred that Comrade Macaulay is a focused, committed and quintessential
leader which he showcased as the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC), Delta State branch, as a former commissioner, as a former SSG
and other offices he held.
He also commended Chief Ibori for his leading role in the struggle for Resource
Control, which paid off with the 13 per cent derivation for oil producing states
in Nigeria, just as he parted Dr. Uduaghan on the back for a job well done while
in office. He described together with him for the Edo and Delta States.
In his remarks, the Chairman General Alexander Ogomudia for the honour done Ibori is a bridge builder across Earlier in his address, sense of humility and gathering which is a modest and brother, Chief my humble country home Area of Delta State. Chairman of the occasion and former Chief of Army Staff,
Ogomudia (Rtd), while also commending Comrade Macaulay

address, Comrade Ovuouzourie Macaulay said “It is with a high
gratitude to God Almighty that I welcome you all to this
modest reception for the visit of my political icon, benefactor
Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State to
home here in Owhelogbo in Isoko North Local Government
This is indeed a day that God has made; aq memorable one
is historic in many ways. It is the first time Chief James Onanefe Ibori will be visiting Isoko since he left office as Governor in
2007. It is also his first visit since returning from his sojourn abroad.
I can also add that this is the first time he will be visiting an individual
in Isokoland only for the occasion to be converted to a reception by the
entire nation. Indeed, this mammoth crowd gathered here is an eloquent
testimony of how well loved our National Leader is by the people
of Isoko but also how eager they are to pledge loyalty to him.
The immediate past SSG pointed out that however, “that this visit
is not just about Comrade Macaulay but an honour to his entire formidable
political family in Isokoland, particularly those who have
kept faith with him over the past ten years of temptations, trials and
travails, till this moment of victory”.
Why quoting Late Dele Giwa, whom he described as a celebrated
journalist and his senior colleague in the pen profession who once
said that “the victory of evil over good can only be temporary”, adding
that Odidigborigbo has triumphed over his enemies.
“Today, we have gathered to celebrate and to honour my political
mentor on his triumph over evil. The late Prime Minister of Britain,
Winston Churchill, once said: “Life is not about how many times you
fall, but how many times you are able to stand up”. There are many
who have passed through the turbulence that my leader went through
but didn’t live to tell their stories. But Chief Ibori went through a tunnel
of fire and came out stronger, bigger than his accusers and more
loved by his people”.
The Okiroro of Isoko Land maintained that Chief Ibori remains a
hero to him and his entire political family in Delta State and everywhere
in the world, saying that Chief Ibori’s victory therefore, confirms
what is stated in the Bible, specifically Romans chapter 9v16, that:
“it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but God that
sheweth mercy”.
He, therefore, congratulated his boss and benefactor because he is
alive to tell his story with joy and laughter, adding that “You are still
very much yourself and of most important is the fact that your followership
knows no bounds”, just he once again thanked Chief Ibori
for making him part of his political family.
He commended the Isoko people for their support over the years
and paid glowing tributes to the immediate past Governor of Edo
State, Comrade Adams Oshiomohle, whom he described as a brother,
a giant in the struggle, a resilient fighter for the rights of the Nigerian
workers and the masses, a courageous and selfless social crusader,
especially in his days as a labour leader and the immediate past Governor
of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for also giving him the
opportunity to serve under his administration, saying that Chief Ibori,
while leaving office in 2007, handed him over to another member
of the family, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, a man Isoko people will not
forget in a hurry.
It was indeed an occasion to behold as it was more than a reception
as it had all the trappings and colourations of a political gathering and
re-union of Chief Ibori political family.
