Agency Banking: Sterling Bank Rewards Agents In Delta

FOR their commitment, resilience and dedication to their jobs on the new banking practice in the state; Agency Banking, Sterling Bank Plc has rewarded three youths in Delta State.
The youths, one from each of the three senatorial districts
of the state, who were adjudged best in relation to the volume of transaction recorded within the past one year, were presented with an android phone each as part of compensation from the bank.
Presenting the award at a one day programme organised by the Delta State government to honour the 270 youths in the state who are currently engaged in the Agency banking,
leader of the Sterling Bank representatives, Ms Khafil Animashaun said that the criteria for the award was chosen based on the recipient’s individual transaction volume.
Beside the Android phones presented to the best three agents, our correspondent reports that other gifts items were presented to other deserving ‘SMART’ Youths in the state who are engaged in the exercise for their selfless job well done just as the Bank has also deposited the highest number of ATM card for Micro-credit beneficiaries in Delta State within their KIAKIA account product.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that barely a month after Delta State was rated top in human capital development by the National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria (NCCN), in partnership with Ford Foundation and Tony Elumelu Foundation, the state, again, recently made history as the best state in Agency Banking in the country.
The rating ,which was done by the Bank of Industry (BoI), according to the Executive Secretary, Delta State Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DSMSMEDA), Mrs. Shimite Bello, was sequel to the volume of transactions in that direction within the past one year which saw Delta record in excess of N1billion
Commending the youths for their resilience on the job since they were recruited barely one year ago, Bello hinted that their activities so far in the state had added a boost to micro credit transaction in Delta , saying, “As at today, about 75,000 Deltans have been able to receive micro credits through the activities of the agents”.
Given the development, Bello maintained that Sterling Bank; the pioneering bank for the transaction in the state, has also released over 10,000 Automated Teller Machines (ATM) to the agents, a development, she added, would further enhance the new banking system in the state.
She said, “All we are trying do as a state is to see all we can do to make life much better and easier for people at the bottom of the pyramid.
“According to BoI statistics, we (Delta) have done the highest transaction in the whole of the country as far as Agency Banking is concerned with the tune of over N1Billion. So, I think that this feat is something we need to commend these youths for.
“Agency banking is not new in Africa; so, I do know that with the resilience of these we will soon be ready for an African award in this direction,” Bello stated.
