Tuomo FC Win Pondi Peace Cup In Burutu

THE second edition of the Hon Julius Pondi Peace Cup Competition organised by the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Julius Pondi has ended with Tuomo F C, emerging champion of the competition after beating Ogulagha Football Cup by a lone goal.
The final football competition, which took place at Obotobo 1community in Ogulagha kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, saw quality football talents and skillful, while the game lasted
The kick-off was taken by the Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr Kingsley Otuaro, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Petroleum Matters ,Chief Bosin Ebikeme, in the presence of many dignitaries from the political and traditional arena as well as sports enthusiasts.
In the keenly contested final, Ogulagha FC dressed in lemon and black jersey, displayed rare skills but could not convert their goal scoring chances against Tuomo FC.
However, Tuomo FC, which did not concede any goal in the tournament, was able to penetrate the tight defence line of the Ogulagha FC to score a goal through a header by Abere Ebiarede five minutes to the end of the first half.
Hon Julius Pondi said that the Peace Cup was organized to engage the youths in sporting activities in order to discover new talents and develop grassroots football.
He said that some talents discovered in the maiden edition were already playing in the nation’s premier league, adding that the competition would also promote friendship and brotherhood as all the teams were representing the various wards in Burutu Federal Constituency.
The federal lawmaker charged youths to redirect their energies into productive ventures, noting that their destinies were in their hands and should engage in educational pursuit and sports development which were key to their emancipation
Earlier the traditional ruler of Ogulagha kingdom, HRM Elder Captain Joseph Timiyan represented by Chief Pitilove Abaire and the Chairman, Obotobo 1community, Chief Felix Ebah commended Hon Julius Pondi for organising the finals in the kingdom and urged him to sustain the yearly sporting event.
The highpoint was the presentation of trophy to the champion of the competition Tuomo FC with N800, 000 cash, Ogulagha FC received N500,000 cash for the second position while the third place winner, Egodo FC got N300,000 cash.
The best Goal keeper went to Dimene Angolor of Tuomo FC,Danny Igoigoi of Ogulagha FC emerged Most Valuable Player while the highest goal scorer in the competition was Larry Bebeyai and were given N50,000 cash each.
