Don’t Yield To FG’s Proposed Cattle Colony ––Muoboghare Warns

A university lecturer and consultant to the Delta State Government on Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare has warned states in the country against the possible temptation or pressure of yielding to the Federal Government’s concept of cattle colony.
Prof. Muoboghare who gave the warning at the weekend in Asaba, the Delta State capital during the official unveiling of Delta State Capital Territory Business Directory, authored by the Chairman, Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), Ogbueshi Afam Obiago, said that the warning became imperative as the concept is a time bomb that would do no one no good.
He commended some state governments, particularly Delta State, that has opposed vehemently the Federal Government’s cattle colony concept, just as he urged them to remain resolute in their decision.
Muoboghare, who presented a lecture titled: “The Sensitivity of Investments To Insecure Environment; The Role of Stakeholders” at the event, noted that the activities of herdsmen in the state are already threatening the corporate existence of the country as it is also beating the drum of ‘war’.
While calling on the Federal Government to seek urgent possible ways of taming the tide rather than propose the concept of cattle colony, he stressed that the ‘trend is already taking its toll on the business environment in the country as local and foreign, direct investors are already being threatened. The situation, he posited,’ is getting worse by the day’ as according to him, ‘it is already increasing the unemployment ratio in the country,’ as well as acceleration of the rate of crime commission just as he urged the Federal Government to take decisive positive steps in curtailing it.“There should be nothing like colony; no state government should yield to the temptation of accepting it. Colony is colony, no matter how you try to polish it. It will definitely worsen the security situation in the country, he said.
“In fact, come to think of it, who says that it is only Fulanis that can rear cow? Who says that Deltans cannot rear cow. Who says that an Edo person cannot rear cow. That is a deceit of the highest order which must not be allowed to see the light of the day,” Muoboghare added.
