‘Oshimili North 2019 Assembly Position Should Be Devoid Of Sentiments’

SEQUEL to alleged unpleasant experience of the past, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State, have been cautioned not to allow political sentiments, quest for pecuniary gains and intimidation to determine the candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly position in 2019, in order not to further jeopardize the future of the good people of Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The State governor, Senate Ifeanyi Okowa should be commended for his determination to ensure that there will be no imposition of candidates for the 2019 elections in the state as there will be primaries, while the party leaders, especially those listed for the primaries, should not use money as a determinant of the best candidate, for the position of the member to represent Oshimili North constituency in the State House of Assembly in 2019, as it would amount to political slavery and brazen elongation of poverty in the council area in the years ahead.
Speaking in an interview with The Pointer at Ibusa, a public affairs commentator, Mr. Paul Okocha advocated that “for the overall benefit of the masses, fair play, equity and good conscience, the selection and adoption or voting for the next candidate for Assembly position should be ideally based on the antecedents/political background of the person (s) involved and ability to move Oshimili North forward.
He lamented that the alleged imposition of candidates for the various elective positions in the council area have been the bane and the major cause of disharmony, political failure, lost of faith in the polity as well as the current impunity among the political office holders in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Okocha argued further that use of unpopular and unmarketable candidates for elections often lead to electoral manipulations, violence and suspicious by the opposition parties if the ruling party candidate is declared winner.
Commenting further, a Chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebu, who spoke in a position of anonymity, stated that the issue of impunity and imposition of candidate have been the major problem of the Oshimili North politics, and if this will be avoided, devoid of sentiments in 2019, it would remedy the ugly situation and return the PDP to its rightful position
