NDDC To Focus On Major Projects Like Rail And Power, Say Governors

GOVERNORS of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have resolved that the Commission would focus on completing on-going projects as against awarding new contracts.
Besides, they resolved that the Commission should place emphasis on tangible projects such as power and rail that impact directly on the generality of the Niger Delta people.
The newly elected chairman of the Forum of Governors of NDDC States and Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan who disclosed this at the weekend in Port Harcourt, after a meeting of the Forum with management of the Commission, said that focus will no longer be on projects like street light.
“There are key areas we are focusing on. We must complete all on-going projects, projects that have been awarded”, he stated.
Furthermore, the Forum’s chairman said, “In moving forward, we believe that NDDC should focus more on regional based projects especially the two main areas of rail and power. The idea is that the budgeting process must focus on major projects as against emphasis on street lights”.
Earlier, the immediate past chairman of the Forum and Governor of Rivers State, Rt.Hon. Rotimi Amaechi had announced the election of Governor Uduaghan as the new chairman of the Forum. “In addition, he explained that apart from power, emphasis is being placed on regional rail so that we can have communication among ourselves, so that business and goods can easily be moved from one point to the other”, Governor Amaechi stated.
Other Governors of the NDDC States present at the meeting were: Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, Theodore Orji of Abia, Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers, Gogwill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom and Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa.
