How Pressure Affects Public Office Holders

DELTEA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan yesterday said  undue pressure from some selfish members of the public affect the performance of political office holders and result in their corrupt practices.

The governor who was represented by the State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) during the church thanksgiving service of the State Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Charles Chukwuemeka Emetulu at St. John‘s Catholic Church Abbi in Ndokwa –West Local Government Area, also urged office holders to avoid the temptation of enriching themselves at the expense of the socio-economic development of the state.

Governor Uduaghan who commended the officiating Clergy, Rev. Father  Victor Nikoro for stressing on the importance of effective and God fearing office holders and the need to shun violence during the appointment and elective political positions as demonstrated by the apostles in Acts of the Apostle1; 15-17.20-26, urged the public to always support political office holders for socio- economic growth and development of the society.

He called on the people of Abbi Community to always thank God for giving them a hard working son like Mr. Emetulu whose patience and efficiency speak volumes. According to him, the presence of many people from all work s of life, especially the politicians that graced the church thanksgiving service and reception ceremony is a plus to him.

While he stressed on the importance of the Ministry of Energy under the leadership of Emetulu to the socio- economic growth and development of the state, he assured Deltans of the readiness of the State government to spread functioning electricity across every community in the state soon.

According to him, the state government’s #15.7 billion National Independent Power Project (NIPP) when it becomes functional after its installation, especially the Sapele turbine, ‘Deltans will enjoy uninterrupted power supply. We would have  light everywhere’.

Earlier,   during  his gospel, the officiating Priest, Rev. Fr. Nikoro (in charge of Koko Catholic Church) stressed  the need for  politicians to borrow a leaf from the peaceful way the Apostles of Jesus Christ conducted the  election for the replacement of Judas , which saw Matthias replacing  Judas without any crisis arising.

The need for the replacement of erring Judas with a more effective person signified the importance of putting the right person, in public office. He however called on politicians to always appoint or elect God-fearing persons to public office and to shun violence in the process of doing that.

Mr. Emetulu while speaking to the press during the reception organized by his community under the chairmanship of Justice James Abadike Obi (Rtd.) attributed his success in life to his uprightness and fear of God and also thanked the State Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve.

Some of our interviewees attributed his success to patience and respect to his elders, the State Commissioner for Housing; Chief Paulinus Akpeki said that Mr. Emetulu’s growth stemmed from his diligence, efficiency and decency, especially his love to fellow man.
