Delta: Sustaining Tempo On War Against Crime
BY AWELE OGBOGU
THE faithful commitment by the Uduaghan administration to the realization of its Peace and Security agenda is evident in the motivation and massive support for the police and other security agencies, among major strides in the sector, aimed at equipping the crime fighters with the much-needed sophistication to combat criminal activities.
The recent donation of 60 patrol vehicles and communication gadgets to the Delta State Police Command clearly demonstrates that the Uduaghan administration is not resting on its oars but is inspiring greater push by the security agencies against criminal elements.
The vehicles and the modern communication equipment handed to the police in the state is, no doubt, a testimony of the Uduaghan administration’s resolve to hand the police the advantage over criminals and to further stretch the long arms of the law in catching up with them.
The donation, which coincided with the familiarization tour of the state by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who has shown enough commitment to crime fighting in the country, serves as a clear warning to criminals that their days are numbered and that they will only meet their waterloo if they continue to tread the shortcut to wealth.
It is equally a demonstration of the state government’s belief that the police and other security agencies in the state can deliver, especially given the right motivation and support to confront criminals headlong.
To assist them in this all-important task, especially with intelligence gathering, the state government had embarked on the registration of vigilante groups across the state to ensure that they are composed of only credible persons.
It has also made it compulsory for all hotels in the state to furnish security agencies with the profile and vital details of lodgers, thus getting the hotels to embrace the global security practice and ensure that they is no hiding place for criminal elements anywhere in the state.
The Uduaghan administration has also continued to engage security experts and stakeholders in the sector and to use its good offices to bear on the sustenance of peace and security in the state for greater investment activities and the well-being of Deltans.
