Security Challenges: Nigeria Won’t Disintegrate, Says Ogeah
BY AUSTIN OYIBODE
INSPITE of the security challenges confronting the country, it will be impossible for Nigeria to disintegrate, Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, has said.
Ogeah also described the National Youth Service Corps scheme which came into being in May 1978 as a major unifying force, the impact of which cannot be relegated to the background.
The Commissioner made the submissions when he received an award from members of the out-going Batch B corps members in his office yesterday.
The commissioner who described the NYSC scheme as a laudable programme commended the out-going corps members for their role in contributing to the development of the state.
He described the Boko Haram insurgency which has led to calls for caution in posting corps members as not a Christian nor a Muslim issue but that of an extremist group which has no affiliation with either Christian or Moslem background.
He called on Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government and the security agencies as the issue of security is being looked into and security apparatus are being put in place to nip the situation in the bud.
Earlier, representative of the corps members who presented the award, Mr. Emeka Ohama, said the award was given to appreciate the commissioner’s role in piloting information affairs in the state.
He said the three NYSC zones that make up the state made the selection having analysed the activities of the commissioner for the past one year.
