End of Road Failure In Sight, As Govt Procures Soil Testing Equipment

DEETERMINED to curb the recurring cases of roads failure across the state, Delta State government has procured soil-test laboratory equipment, made up of 112 items.

The State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme has also urged the field engineers to use the tractors procured by the  state government in their zonal offices to maintain the wild grass affecting the view of motorists along roads.

Funkekeme who made the disclosure while receiving the laboratory equipment yesterday in Asaba from the contractor, said when it becomes operational, would curb cases of roads failure , warning erring contractors that the  era of using sub-standard materials is over’.

The laboratory equipment, he said, would be used to test the efficiency of contractors construction materials (earth work, bitumen, asphalts and concerts) before the execution of any project across the state.

The commissioner who also inspected some tractors at the Ministry’s zonal office at Agbor in Ika South local government council urged the Engineers in the state to use the tractors for roads maintenance  to enhance visibility along the roads.

While inspecting the on-going road \ drainage system project at old Lagos-Asaba road Agbor, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of work and urged the contractor to maintain the pace and work according to contract agreement.

Funkekeme while briefing news men said that the contractor of the project has .covered 40 percent of the work which he later observed was delayed by the issue of payment of compensation to affected structures along the road, adding that the state government has paid the compensation for some of the affected structures.
