Chinese Premier League club, Shanghai Shenhua, have rejected Manchester United’s request to extend Nigeria forward Odion Ighalo stay at the club for another three months.
Ighalo linked up with the Red Devils on a six-month loan deal on transfer deadline day.
The loan deal will expire at the end of this month.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, United want to keep Ighalo until the end of August when the season is now expected to finish, but Shanghai have rejected their offer.
Shenhua are willing to sell Ighalo for £20m, even though a permanent deal has not been discussed.
The 30-year-old is now expected to rejoin Shanghai Shenhua next week Monday for the start of the delayed
Chinese Super League season.
Ighalo has scored four goals in eight appearances for Manchester United.
